about Sandy Sommer
Sandy has been a lifelong photographer since the age of 11. She enjoys working in several genres; wildlife, landscapes, weathered / old objects and scenes. She concentrates on how light draws the eye to the subject, enhancing the mood of an environment. She particularly enjoys catching the quirkiness of wildlife in action. Sandy participates in competitions, print exhibits, works as a judge and enjoys offering her work for sale online.
Sandy is the recipient of the Gurwin 2023 Grand Prize in Wildlife, the 2024 Grand Prize in Altered/Enhanced Photography and the 2025 Grand Prize in Landscapes. In 2025 she was inducted into the Photographic Federation of Long Island Hall of Fame. Sandy serves on the PFLI board as the Officer of Information and is a member of the Mid Island Camera Club.
